SRGE Section Leader 1

Ok. It's settled. I'm Section Leader 1 for SR Guitar Ensemble. My duties are piling up.

Imagine - messaging and calling members of Section 1 to remind them of practice, chase after them to ask for reasons of absence when they don't turn up for lessons, chase after them then agian to make sure they come for the next practice, teach them how to play the different pieces, watch the progress of the not-so-keen-and-committed members/learners...

Well, to tell the truth, being an SL is not easy, especially when some (>4 out of 9 in fact) of your section members aren't committed to the CCA. The reasons for absence they can come up with can be absolutely outrageous! Some examples are " My friend isn't coming for practice, so I won't be going.", ''I've sprained my leg, so I can't come." and "My friend is having heavy fever. I'm sending her home."

Oh, what jokes are these? CCA is called CCA for a reason! It's not called ECA anymore! It's co-curricular activity for heaven's sake! CO-CURRICULAR! It means it's incorporated into the curriculum! It's part of the curriculum!

If your friend isn't coming for CCA, he/she is already playing truant if he/she does not have a valid reason. So if you are joining your friend, YOU are also playing truant!

As all people with common sense should have known, playing the guitar involves using your arms, hands, eyes and most importantly, your fingers! So what's with the sprained leg? It wouldn't affect you when you play the guitar! At most, other members could help you get your guitar out of the store and out of its case if you find it inconvenient to do so due to your sprained leg.

It happens that your friend is having heavy fever? It happens that you are sending her home? It also happens that both you and your friend are in SRGE Section 1! How coincidental can that be? Hmm... I should test the reliability of this source, shouldn't I?

Now you can see that being a SL is not easy. But I'll perservere and perform my duties as I should! I hope everything ( and everyone) will change for the better and not let SRGE down. Wish me luck!
